"Snow White" is a 19th-century German fairy tale that is today known widely across the world. The Brothers Grimm published it in 1812 in the first edition of their collection Grimms' Fairy Tales, numbered as Tale 53"

The seven dwarfs were first given individual names in the 1912 Broadway play Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and then given different names in Walt Disney's 1937 film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

In the 1980s and 1990s, some German authors suggested that the fairy tale could have been inspired by a real person. Eckhard Sander, a teacher, claimed that the inspiration was Margaretha von Waldeck, a German countess born in 1533, as well as several other women in her family.

After the release of the film in 1937, The first productions of “Snow White” appeared on stage, Originally faithful reproductions of the Disney film, live on stage they featured the film’s musical numbers. They soon evolved into a more pantomime version, with specially written plots and characters not in the Disney version included to fit in with the pantomime genre.
